Definition of tribology and its interdisciplinary character; Economical impact of friction and wear; Tribological losses in the industry and transportation; Surface layers (composition and structure).
2. Wear – mechanisms and types
Wear mechanisms and wear types (adhesive, abrasive, fatigue – pitting, erosive, cavitation, fretting, oxidative, corrosive); Presentation of worn surfaces and machine parts failure due to wear, and wear products (debris).
